Here's a piece of news from a short article in the Fall issue of "Living Without", a magazine for those with food allergies (and celiac disease). Have you ever noticed that your celiac or gluten intolerance symptoms worsen after a visit to the dentist? Most polishing agents contain gluten! The good news is that you can ask your dentist to provide you with a gluten-free brand, of which there are at least half a dozen to choose. Have your dentist's office assistant flag your chart to let them know you are gluten intolerant, and to use the special gluten-free brand they carry. If you have a latex allergy, make sure your chart is flagged as well.
Arico Natural Foods,
Local Gluten-Free Business
Arico Natural Foods produces Gluten-Free Cookies, Cookie Bars and Cassava Chips. All of their products are free of gluten, dairy and anything artificial and were created with “mindful snacking” at heart.
The company was founded by a husband-and-wife team in Beaverton , OR in 2004. Inspired by their young niece, who follows a diet free of gluten and dairy as an alternative treatment for autism, the pair set out to create a line of snacks that would be safe for those with restricted dietary needs, yet delicious enough to share.
A socially and environmentally aware company, Arico partners with Women for Women International to support women survivors of war and invests in wind energy projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) to offset the carbon emissions of its business operations. The company plants a tree for every new store that carries its cassava chips and participates in community events and fundraising walks nationwide to support those who live gluten free.
Arico’s gluten-free snacks are sold in more than 1,500 stores nationwide, including Whole Foods Market, Fred Meyer, and many natural food stores.

Cravin Raven Bakery - expands its gluten-free offerings in Sellwood
Baker/Owner Cindy Sherman had a vision for delicious organic baked goods made without refined sugar. What she didn't expect was a third of her customers asking for gluten-free baked goods as well. Although not gluten-intolerant herself, she's delved into gluten-free baking with some success. Try out some of her GF products and give her some encouragement. Cravin Raven is not a dedicated GF facility (yet), so use your own discretion.
